PL1/K1 Portable Hearing Loop & Accessories Overview

The PL1/K1 Portable Hearing Loop is quick to set up in seconds and easy to use with its simple one button operation, making it a preferred hearing loop choice for this application.

With a loop listening field of 1.2m, it is ideal for restricted person to person contact such as when talking at a desk, while its limited horizontal throw of loop field helps maintain privacy when needed.

It is a desktop unit that clearly shows the “hearing loop” sign, allowing people with hearing difficulties to know that this service is present and available without the need to ask.

The bundle not only includes a number of PL1/K1 Portable Hearing Loops, but also a Loop Listener and Clip-on Microphones.

The loop listener will allow a non hearing aid user to test the units are working as they should prior to dispatching them out to the Polling Stations.  The clip-on mics offer greater speech clarity in an environment with excessive echo due to poor acoustic levels, as can be found in some venues.

How will this benefit my Constituents?

Hearing loss can effect people in different ways, making any outing, including voting, a daunting experience for many.  Reduced access to services and difficulties communicating with others can cause social withdrawal which will directly affect their inclination to visit a Polling Station.  Hearing loss can also trigger emotional difficulties caused by a drop in self-esteem.  Ensuring you have a Hearing Loop facility available gives those members of the public total inclusivity and confidence when it comes to voting and attending Polling Stations.  Knowing that they can converse and ask questions with ease will provide a positive experience, something that everyone should be entitled to.

Why do I need a Hearing Loop in a Quiet Environment?

Many people aren’t aware that the microphone on a hearing aid is usually situated at the back of the ear, picking up sound from behind as opposed to in front.  This can make day-to-day conversations extremely difficult and frustrating for hearing aid users, even in the quietest of environments.  In addition, where there is even the slightest echo due to poor acoustic levels, picking up the clarity of the person speaking can be very demanding.

How does the Hearing Loop work?

The PL1/K1 works firstly by picking up the sound using the inbuilt microphone, amplifying the sound, and then transmitting this using an electromagnetic signal to the users hearing aids.  The hearing aid then converts this signal back into a sound suited to its users specific hearing requirements.  This then enables the user to participate more fully in general conversation, ordering goods or services, etc.  A hearing loop is accessible to any hearing aid with the T-Setting or “MT” switch available.

FAQ

Why do I need an RXTI2 Loop Listener?

It is good practice to ensure that your hearing loop is functioning as it should at all times.  The RXTI2 Loop listener allows the non-hard of hearing to test the system is working as it should.  When you plug a set of headphones into the loop listener (not supplied), you can hear exactly what someone with hearing aids would hear.  This allows you to trouble shoot any problems before they become an issue for someone who needs access to the hearing loop.
